Pumpkin

The word pumpkin originates from the word pepon, which is Greek for “large melon". The French adapted this word to pompon, which the British changed to pumpion and later American colonists changed that to the word we use today, "pumpkin"

Unbelievable, I saw this pumpkin in the market where my mom used to sell her vegetables and fruits. At first, I thought it was import or my mom bought it from others. Then, my mom told me that it come from our farm when I was doing my attachment di Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I take few photos of it... and luckily my brother snap few photos of it when the pumpkin attached to it stalk..

Pokok Cempedak

Cempedak, the smaller cousin of the well-known, jackfruit. It adopts the Malay name as it does not have an English name. It is a seasonal fruit native to southeast Asia.

Cempedak looks similar to the jackfruit except that it is much smaller in size but it is large in comparison to other fruits. It is also sweeter, stickier and with a strong odor when it is ripe. You will know when it is ripe as it will emit a strong odor that fills the room, similar to the durian. It will turn light green with dark brown spots appearing on several of the flattened studs. It is also slightly sticky when you touch it due to the secretion of latex through the rind.

Common Name: Cempedak
Vernacular Name: Chempedak
Scientific Name: Artocarpus champeden

Bunga Durian Polo

This year we are lucky. The Durian Polo is flowering and we need to take good care of it. Previous year, we have Durian Monthong, species famous from Thailand. But this year, we have Durian Polo. At the moment, this durian is not for commercial purposes yet until it is stable enough. This is the flower of Durian Polo:

Longan Brazil

We only have few trees.. of this "Longan Brazil", origin unknown, and its scientific name also unknown. This fruit given by my mother friend.. seldom found in Brunei. This type of 'longan' still unfamous in Brunei Local here. It taste different from actual Longan.. it is more dry and the skin is hard but still sweet. The skin is greenish and the normal longan found during His Majesty Birthday in July colour brown and soft.

Hopefully, we will plant this Longan and expose it to the Bruneian here...

Today, I am bit bored and go down to my mom farm. I had been told by my mom worker... that they found many snake in the farm area. What kind of snake??? I also don't know because Fendi (worker) thrown the snake away. Then I saw Sodikin hold lots of long bean... but very unfortunately.. at the moment, the price of longbean at the market is quite cheap.. lower than the normal price. Quite sad... because he is very hard working worker and learn how to plant this long bean from his frind, Fendi... But better than nothing.

Dragon fruit

The day I am waiting finally come.. I am waiting for this dragon Fruit trees to bear flower and fruit... what made me dissapointed is I always miss its flower... I know the flower is white and big in shape... Who ever are interest to see the flower can see at http://www.tradewindsfruit.com/dragon_fruit.htm

Growing Environment: Dragon Fruit grows best in dry, tropical or subtropical climates where annual rainfall ranges from 20-50" per year. In wet, tropical zones, plants may grow well but sometimes have problems setting fruit reliably. The plants aren't usually too picky as to soil type, but because of their epiphytic nature, it is recommended to grow them in soil that is supplemented with high amounts of organic material. The plant has been grown successfully in sandy soils. Shade is sometimes provided in hot climates.

There are 2 colours inside as far as i know.. the greyish and the maroon bright... Personally for me, I like the red colour compare to the greyish.....

Jambu Air 'Syzygium aqueum'

Actually, this fruit exist in the farm and almost every year it bear fruit. But this is the first year we sell it to the market. Why this is first year...? The reason is because our worker refused to take it from the tree... may be because it is too high and perhap due to many ants also. Hopefully, next year some workers will work hard and we will persuade them so that this fruit can sell it cheaply to the market.

In local term... we call it as Jambu air.. the scientific term is Syzygium aqueum

Ayam Kampung

My uncle rear a lots of 'Ayam Kampung'... what is it in English??? Village Chicken? Sound Weird a bit.. may be later reader will interprete Village Chicken as 'prostitute'... hhmmm.... We do not sell the ayam kampung but we sell the eggs... It is very fresh when we take to the market to sell... We do not keep the eggs for more than 2 days... That why... whenever the eggs bring to the market to sell... it is always finished... Don't know why.. most of the customer is Indonesia... and chinese...

I ever asked and interviewed few indonesian customers... they said.. they eat it fresh (without boil) because it can increase their stamina, increase energy, reduce tiredness and make them physically strong... Some Indonesians mix the egg with honey also... May be they want to make the Jamu (traditional made) STMJ : Susu (milk), Telor (egg), Madu(honey), Jahe (halia- Ginger)... it is a kind of Jamu popular in among the Javanese in Indonesia. To the readers out there, wanna try??? Just go ahead ...

Wew... why i am talking about Jamu? I am not advertising jamu.. I actually should advertisement the my uncle eggs.... But bear in mind... if someone wants to book the eggs... please book as early as possible...
